It's amazing how many people flock to Todaiji. Then again, when you see how gigantic this temple is, you can understand. It can be a bit overwhelming.
In front of my wife is a a large group of people lighting incense before they enter the grounds.
Todaiji Temple holds the largest indoor standing Buddha statue. If you can, you must go during summer time's lantern festival at Todaiji. It's absolutely breathtaking to see the pathway to the temple lit up, with the windo for the Buddha's face to be seen, wide open, and hearing the monks' hymns.
