Hi Kristof - well, it's bright.... I don't think using direct flash helps any subject, as you can see by the reflections in the pump, and by the nasty shadows that it creates.
A couple of suggestions for you..
1) If you can bounce the flash off a wall or ceiling then do so.
2) If you can't do that because it's a compact camera, try putting some tissue over the flash to diffuse the light - you may need a few layers, but you will get far better light.
3) Get a tripod - again, even if you're using a compact you can still get mini tripods, so that you can use a slower shtter speed and not need the flash..
