Today I am sharing a picture of an engine house known as Wheal Prosper at Rinsey near Porthleven.
This engine house has been restored. It was originally built in the 19th century; but in contrast to its' name, it was not a very prosperous mine and only traded for a short while....1860-1866.
I wanted to show you just how close to the sea many of these mines were. Many mine workings actually ran right under the sea.The miners would just follow the richest seams of tin, copper, zinc, lead, arsenic and sometimes silver.A very dangerous life. Many miners did not live beyond the age of 40 if they hadn't already been killed by rock falls etc.,
The iconic shape of these engine houses has been adopted by Cornishmen as one of their logos.Often to be seen on cars as the sign of where they come from.
There is a National Trust car park at the top of the cliff, and the footpath leads directly to the engine house.
Below there is Rinsey Cove, which can be reached by a steep path down.
Thanks for looking.

Hi Jean:
Very impresive composition and excellent details...the blues in the waters and straight horizon is just superb!!!

Hi Jean,
A splendid landscape! Beautiful colors with excellent contrast.
Have a nice evening,
Adrian
Nice composition, beautiful place. However, I would have like a bit more density in the sky.
Hello Jean,
I appreciate this lovely vista especially after reading your informative Note. Hard to imagine that this area was once mined, and my mind asks where the mine waste went. It looks clean and beautiful now with the blue waters. Well done. Regards.

Hi Jean,
Last year, I visited many places in Cornwall and every picture of Cornwall sometimes seems familiar to me somehow :)
here, you have captured the engine house very well with great sky and lush green wild bushes in the FG. I like the crisp sharpness and taken from the nice POV.
Very well done.
best wishes,
Paras
Hello Jean,
A well composed shot concentrating on the lovely contrasts of green and blue. The focal image is sharp and well placed in the frame, benefitting from its emergence from the nearby triangle of gorse.
Kind regards,
Bev :-)
