Fascin...ant! Pardonne ce jeu de mots facile et irrésistible...
Bel essai de noir et blanc, j'aime ta composition légèrement décentrée, et les flaques d'eau brillantes. bravo pour cette première bien réussie.

Une photo intéressante qui demande un peu d'attention pour bien comprendre ce que l'on voit, Annie. Mais, j'aime bien toutes ces lignes qui nous dirigent dans toutes les directions et ton point de vue qui regarde vers le milieu qui regarde au lien est vraiment très bien. Finalement, bienvenue dans le monde du n&b...une belle conversion. Bravo!

P.S. Merci d'avoir mentionné que je t'ai inspiré à essayer le n&b. J'aime aussi beaucoup le n&b mais avant de trouver cette recette, je n'aimais pas les n&b numériques car ils n'avaient pas la même qualité pour les gris.

Hi Annie,
This is a nice B&W picture. Very nice perspective you have here. A very easy way to do a B&W is to use desaturate option in the image/adjustments in Photoshop, and then play with teh brightness and contrast. My own personal thing is to then add a streak of colour to one corner of the photograph. I have many examples of this technique in my gallery.

Glad you made the step in Black and White.
With color photos you through away one dimension and all our human feelings like smell, temperature, sound. Now you remove the colors as well. One step more is the Isohelie.
But you understand B&W intuitive .
And start to use repetition and forms and lines
I can see it is a simple conversion. Give me your e-mail address and I will send you a document with six better ways to convert. But technique is secondary
It is a good photo and informative note. I thought only Dutch where eating eel (water snake).

I'm happy you were telling us what these sticks and ropes are for - it's interesting to look at and also good in black/white, but I wouldn't have knowen that it is for the fishermen. We have such sticks with ropes, looking very similar here in Bavaria for hop-cultivation - for making beer - so the hop can grow on the ropes very high.

Salut Annie,

J'aime bien ta composition avec toutes ces lignes et détails. J'aime comment la ligne des montagnes arrive juste au dessus des fascines.
J'aime aussi le N/B à l'occasion mais je suis toujours resté deçu du résultat à partir du numérique. Les contrastes ne sont pas aussi grand et les capteurs numériques tous comme les films couleurs sont très limités pour les zones de lumières qu'ils peuvent capter soit environ l'équivalent 2 stop de chaque côté (plus sombre et plus clair) alors qu'en argentique on peut facilement aller chercher 5 stops de chaque côté. Je pense même ressortir ma vieille caméra argentique à l'occasion pour faire de la photo maintenant que j'ai accès à un lab au club photo.

Par contre en regardant ta photo je vois bien qu'on peut avoir de très bons résultats avec du numérique.

Beautiful visual, me also taste a lot of pictures in b/w, I always found them a classic.
Reading his text I understood the fishing form, that funny, in each part of the world there is an innovation in the form of fishing. Great composition. Beautiful!

Hi Annie. A step outside the boundaries for you and a worthy experiment. Excellent POV although I prefer the workshop version. There are remnants of fish traps the Aborigines used back in my birth state of Western Australia but nothing like this. I have yet to even try eel but I know they are caught in the rivers here, mainly by trout fishermen. Well done and TFS,

this is not an easy subject to transform into B/W, but you did a very good job. Great repetiti on and vertical lines that add a lot of depth. Also your contrast shows of the textures very well. Very well done.

Hi Annie,
Great work on the B/W conversion eventhough I find the bottom part of the grasses a bit too dark, but that has more to do with the curves then with the conversion. Your POV and the composition are perfect. with the top rope entering the photo from the perfect spot.

Sacré Père Noël! Il est un peu distrait cette année... Il était d'avance pour m'avoir emprunter mon sac... 24 heures.. .Et la panique quand il s'est rendu compte qu'il ne pouvait contenir que 20 critiques..

There is 'dramatique' in this photo that reminds me of the ones we ddid see from WW2. I agree Annie, only B/W can create an atmosphere as we see here, I am more a 'colour man ' but technicaly this is very good. TFS
