[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
Yesterday I posted Cowboy Life in which I described a bit of what life is like on my brother-in-laws cattle ranch, and showed a different view of this farrier hard at work in the barn.

I thought I'd post one more of him - this one in color. I think this part of the shoeing process is called the manicure:) (joking!) Notice the motion blurr of his hands as he performs this delicate step.

As in yesterdays post, the early morning light was coming in through a door to the left. I like the way the light came through under the horses belly and illuminated his hands as he worked.

I worked on the colors some here - mostly reduced the red channel. Also cropped every so slightly, sized and sharpened.

Hi Trudy

I saw the b&w thumbnail before I clicked the colour version, which has more warmth. The motion blurred hands are well captured here. Reasonable sharpness & well composed. Tfs!

Hi Trudy - nice that you're showing us something of a farriers' life..

The blur of his hands is a good idea and the 1/30sec is good. I really would recommend a small tripod that you can carry around easily for these shots to get the rest of the shot super sharp. Of course that would also let you shoot at ISO100 or even 50 if your camera goes down to that!!

Mind you don't get kicked standing by those back legs, I'm told by those who have been kicked that it HURTS !!!!!

Cheers
David

Hi, Trudy,
I love the light and color in this one. You did a wonderful job capturing that morning light and his hands at work. This really is a lovely shot. Many thanks and warm regards,
Shelly

Hi Trudy,

What a fine action shot, good idea to get out there while this man was working. I would have liked to heard the stories - that is one of the things I like the best about meeting people from other ilks of life - and one of the things I like to do myself - as you have noticed! I regale anyone who will listen with stories constantly - the guys that work for me actually request specific ones... No one here really wants to hear those, though.

That must have been some experience. That is the kind of opportunity that breeds good photography and you have captured it right here. Great shot!

Did you get a close-up of his hands? I'll bet they were interesting after handling so many horses and those tools for so long.

Have a nice day,

Bonjour Trudy
Le mouvement obtenu par un temps d’exposition bien approprié et lent donne a cette image un superbe effet.
Les couleurs et le contraste sont aussi splendides.
Bonne soirée.

Hi Trudy,
I havn't visit your galery for a while now, (lack of spare time to devote on Treklens)..))) but I'm glad to see that you're still doing very well.

I like this shot, it's well composed, and there is a nice mood to it. I've got to agree that the mouvement cause by a slow shutter speed, give a nice quality to this image, and make us feel the action on the man's part. Well done.

Hello Trudy,
The horse looks quite docile as the photo depicts movement from the cowboy. Looks great! Regards...Danilo

You did pretty well here, especially considering the slow shutter and inevitable motion blur. The diffuse light is very nice as you note yourself, and given the extreme close up we've been shown of the Horse's Arse (so to speak) this is nicely balanced and composed.

Does your camera allow a higher ISO? Would that have helped? Some do, some don't, and really you've done a good job anyway so it's not a major!

Rew

very interesting. You can see some movement in the photo and i like that. It's a special profession i quess. watch out for those behind legs, it can be dangerous...

regards, willie

Hi Trudy
This is good action photo of the man at his work however I would have preferred to take sharp image of the man from the elbows down as that is the point of interest. The lighting has woked well. Still good photo as different from most images you come across on TL.
Best regards
balwant

HI Trudy
Oh boy getting new shoes, I hope they will not be as tight as the last couple of pairs.
The stillness of the horse while your B in law is working fiercely to get those hooves cleaned up is a good contrast between man and beast. I like the angle which you took this shot.
