Shot outside the a beat bar in San Frans North Shore... here's the story:

-
I went into Chinatown at about 6:30 am...after about half an hour I tried to find a spot to get a coffee before moving on. I soon after found the bar here , home to some of our times greatest beat writers, and I asked this man if they were open...he tells me it is and I walk in. The bar has the feel of an old ball glove, damp, darkened by time and really cozy. Not to mention open, or maybe just barely open, it's bar is lined with guys already. And not guys drinking coffee, but guys with a small glass of burboun in front of them, with a beer chaser of course...they're not animals..haha.

So after shaking the feeling that I walked into a failed AA meeting, I asked the bartender for a coffee. It was roughly 7am! He gives me a queer look, and says I'll make some...too funny. He makes me a cup, a little thick mind you, probably would have been better had he added water. Either way I saoked in the environment and sipped the sludge.

No sooner had I touched the glass to my lips does the door open.... in walks a man of about 30... the bartender screams "Mike!, you're late!....Late? where am I?haha... if you're late for drinking at 7 in the morning, you my friend have a serious problem....

All the same, I drank my coffee...a drink alien to these people, and enjoyed finding a refuge for the troubled soul.

San fran...a city to experience.

Great Bw and great frame!i like the grain of your shot.

LOL. Your note is so amusing. I could just imagine the whole story of you being inside. Love the journalistic shot and the torn edges. Glad you enjoyed your sludgy coffee.

Your note is as picturesque as your shot is. Very well done on all accounts.

A great story to accompany the picture.
Just wonder about a coloured version, these patterns at the entrance and decorations around it intrigue me...

What a great atmosphere and fantastic composition. So wild efect with this man in macho pose and all in W&B.
I love this style!

It's turn like good old style of picture... I can find some commun point with Macadam Cowboy i think so. Great effect! I like the style... We could say it have some blues too :o)

If you had cropped those cars on the left, it would look like a picture taken in 1940's. Beautiful picture. I love the grain and framing. Best wishes!

Well Captured Carey,I like the way you framed your shot and I really appreciated your note too.
Bravo.

Steph.
