This is me on the steps of a house in a ghost town, Bodie, California. Walking through these old buildings made me pause to consider who might have lived there; what children were born there; who died there? In a wild frontier town like this, there were probably gun fights too; a formerly rough and hardy ghost town . . . and people fighting over the search for gold and new places to live; a barren and dry place in the Wild West desert near another interesting site, Mono Lake.
I had been back packing at Yosemite National Park which is nearby.
The photo is a scan and therefore lacks clarity and I'm still struggling with how to maintain clarity and shrink photos without significant loss of detail. I'm sharing this photo more for the experience than the quality of the photo. Since this image was about 10 years ago the building could be sagging like so many of the others still battered by time, but remaining there. |

I love these towns, i've just returned from a vacation in Arizona, and was on the look out for this type of place, I know there is some but unfortunatelty I never came across any, i'm returning for 3 weeks in 3years time and were taking in California next time, so i'll bear this in mind! TFS!!
Dean.
Hi Richard, I went to a place called Jamestown (where the Hell's Angels were actually having their annual 'convention) which was on the way to Yosemite and this looks like it to some degree. I thought the scan was quite good, the only thing that didn't come out clear was the model and it was a bit small. However, it's a great shot of an interesting place to visit. TFS.
Hi Ricardo! Nice place. Nice colors. Beautiful house. Amazing wndows. Interesting shot. but this picture is very small...
Well if it wasn't for the goldrush California, especially San Francisco, wouldn't be the place it is today.
What an amazing house, hard to believe it's empty! I'd give anything to own it myself *lol*.
It's just a shame the whole of the roof wasn't in the frame and the people were caught walking past on the left.
Thanks for sharing.
You are very lucky to be living in San Francisco. It's been at the top of my 'to go' list for a very long time. Thanks again.
