|The coloured lenses in Dungeness Lighthouse. These lenses are one floor below the main light, and were used to shine red or green lights to ships so that they might avoid the shingle banks near the coast; for example if a ship coming from the west saw a green light below the main beam it was safe to continue on its course, if however it saw any red light then the crew knew they needed to alter their course accordingly.|
