This may be a tad long note: But this is the story of MY new Nikon!!!
“Finally” Sara, Noah and Myself arrive in Duluth, MN after 3 days driving across the Mid-West (A huge thanks to Onstar!)….
We pull into Duluth’s Canal Park with time to spare. We did a little shopping and had a quick lunch at Grandma’s. Out on the horizon we could see just a little square.. I was thinking Yes that is Daddy’s Boat! AGAIN “Finally”
We met one of Tom’s shipmate’s wife (Kathy) she would take us to the loading dock where we would board the boat for just about a week… Well this is when I get a call from Tom that the high winds are going to delay the boat a few hours from reaching the pier.. This is also when I take out my Sony and find the lens was stuck open and not working. (I’m still questioning Noah about THAT!)
Kathy was nice enough to take us up the street in Duluth to see if someone could do a quick fix on my poor Sony… No luck as you can guess.. But I put a quick / very sad call to Tom and he o.k.’s a new camera for the trip thinking we can just return the Nikon D40X after the trip and pay a restocking fee……… You can guess that did not pan out the way HE planned.. ;)
So I purchase the Nikon we head back to see if the winds have died down enough to let the boat approach the piers.. Still no luck… We then head to the Canal Museum to ask to use an outlet to charge my batteries.. The lady was super nice and let me charge them…
Unknown to me Sara and Noah where using the high powered binoculars and can totally make out the deck on the Mesabi Miner (Tom’s boat)… Sara then requests me to call Tom to see if he could go out on Deck and give us all a wave!!! I do and he DID…
To make a long story longer……. Finally we get the call that the are heading in around 730 is (just a few hours late) so we rush to the piers (me new Nikon in hand and very happy) snap a few shots.. in WS you can find a closer shot of Tom he is in the group of 3 on deck and in the center in the blue coveralls….
This is my 1st photo with my new Nikon
So around 9:30 we FINALLY are able to board the Mesabi Miner and start our week long trip with Tom and the crew!
